Rep. Dexter speaking with Democratic Doctors

As a critical care physician, Congresswoman Maxine Dexter cared for the sickest members of our community. She knows that for communities to thrive, every person in the United States must have easy access to high-quality, affordable health care that centers patients, not special interests.

Democratic Doctors Caucus

Dexter founded the Democratic Doctors Caucus to bring medical expertise to the policymaking table. Through this caucus, she is working to ensure that health policy decisions are rooted in scientific evidence, compassion, and good, efficient governance that prioritizes healthy communities through incentivizing the system to achieve outcomes that lead to good public health.

Congresswoman Dexter is a strong defender of Medicaid, which provides lifesaving care to children, low-income families, people with disabilities, and older Americans. She is pushing back against efforts to cut or restrict access to this essential program and is committed to strengthening the nation’s safety net.

As a doctor and a legislator, Congresswoman Dexter recognizes that health does not exist in a vacuum. She is leading efforts to push the federal government to acknowledge and address the public health impacts of climate change, including worsening air and water quality, respiratory illness, and extreme weather events. For Congresswoman Dexter, protecting health means protecting the environment and systems that sustain us.
