Dexter: "Democracy is not guaranteed. It requires hard work and vigilant care.”
WASHINGTON, D.C.— Today, Congresswoman Maxine Dexter M.D. released the following statement marking four years since the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
“Four years ago, a violent mob stormed our nation’s Capitol in an attempt to stop the certification of a free and fair election. This deadly insurrection was not just an attack on Congress, but on the very foundation of our democracy: the peaceful transfer of power.
“Today is a somber reminder that democracy is not guaranteed. It requires hard work and vigilant care. Oregonians deserve representatives who will do the work, even when it is painful. That's why I ran for office—to defend our democracy and to strengthen it so our nation never again experiences an attack like that on January 6, 2021."
