I know there is no shortage of bad news right now, so it is even more important for us to take a moment and celebrate our wins.

I’m excited to share that my first bill was signed into law! The FAST VETS Act will help more veterans get good-paying jobs by making critical improvements to the Veteran Readiness and Employment program. This law strengthens access to job training, educational resources, and employment support, removing roadblocks that have kept too many veterans from getting the opportunities they’ve earned.

I am also thrilled to share I recently secured more than $14 million in federal funding for community-initiated projects across Portland, Gresham, Sandy, and Hood River. These investments will support youth violence prevention, behavioral healthcare, clean water, emergency response, housing, and infrastructure upgrades. Each project came from the ground up, shaped by the people doing the work on the frontlines.

This is what representative government should look like: collaborative, focused, and grounded in the needs of the people we serve. I am proud of the progress we’re making, and I’m just getting started. I will keep working in Congress to bring more federal dollars home to Oregon and stand up for policies that support our communities—whether it is our veterans, children, seniors, working families, or immigrant communities.

Let’s keep the conversation going

Last week I held my first telephone town hall of the year and I’m excited to host my next in person town hall on February 21 from 11am to 12pm at the Wy'east Middle School Performing Arts Center (3000 Wy’east Rd, Hood River, OR 97031).
