Internships

Congresswoman Dexter's office is seeking motivated and detail-oriented individuals for her Internship Program in Washington, DC and Portland, OR. This opportunity provides a hands-on learning experience in a congressional office on Capitol Hill.  

Key Responsibilities: Washington, DC  

  • Greet visitors and conduct Capitol tours.
  • Answer phone calls and draft constituent correspondence.
  • Compile daily news clips and research legislation.
  • Attend briefings and hearings.
  • Assist with other tasks as assigned by staff.
  • Attend meetings with the Congresswoman.
  • Office Location: 1207 Longworth Building, Washington, D.C. 20515 

Key Responsibilities: Portland, OR

  • Answer phone calls and draft constituent correspondence.
  • Compile data and research on Oregon's 3rd Congressional District.
  • Research legislation.
  • Accompany staff to tours and meetings.
  • Attend meetings with the Congresswoman.
  • Assist wtih roundtables and town halls.
  • Assist with other tasks as assigned by staff.
  • Office location: 911 NE 11th Ave Portland, OR 97232

Qualifications: 

  • Strong Communication skills, including the ability to draft professional correspondence.
  • Organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Interest in the legislative process and/or constituent services.
  • Professional demeanor and the ability to interact respectfully with constituents and staff. 

Additional Details Washington D.C. 

  • Schedule: Flexible hours to accommodate academic schedules, but generally 9:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M. Full-time and part-time positions available.  
  • Eligibility: Open to undergraduate students, Graduate students, and non-students.
  • Pay: Financial stipend available.
  • Internships are accepted on a rolling basis:
    • Applications for the Washington D.C. Spring 2026 Internship Program are due by Friday, October 31. 

Additional Details Portland, OR

  • Please note: Students looking to participate in an internship with the Portland office this spring must participate in a class that allows them to receive academic credit for the experience. Contact kaitlynne.jensen2@mail.house.gov with any questions.
  • Schedule: Flexible hours to accommodate academic schedules, but generally 8:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M. Number of hours in the office depends on the program you are in.
  • Eligibility: Open to students from Portland State University and University of Portland.
  • Pay: Unpaid, but academic credit will be received.
  • Applications for the Portland, OR Spring 2026 Internship Program are due by Friday, November 28th
