Honoring our veterans
Today, and every day, we honor the veterans who have selflessly served our country, and we recognize the families who have stood by their side.
Before I came to Congress, I practiced for more than two decades as a physician. For over seven of those years, I cared for veterans at the VA hospital, where I walked past a sign each morning that read: “The price of freedom is visible here.” That message has never left me.
It is why I am honored to serve on the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, where I got right to work. This year, I was proud to pass my first bill in the House: the FAST VETS Act, which strengthens veterans’ employment programs for veterans with service-connected disabilities. I also introduced the Every Veteran Housed Act, legislation that expands access to life-saving resources for veterans experiencing homelessness. No one who has served our country should be left without a safe place to call home.
My commitment to our veterans is as personal as it is unwavering.
If you or a loved one need help accessing VA benefits, my office is here to help. You can call us at (503) 231-2300 or fill out a request for assistance here.
Be well,
Maxine Dexter, M.D.
Member of Congress
