An Open Letter to Our Community:

Last month, Donald J. Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States. Since then, I have heard from thousands of Oregonians who are scared, confused, and outraged by his cruel, chaotic actions.

As your representative in Congress, I hear you loud and clear. This is not the future we want for our kids. We will push back. This is a multi-front battle that will be fought in the halls of Congress, the courts, and the public sphere.

In Congress, I introduced brand new legislation to prevent retaliation of any kind against any federal employee who resists, circumvents, or prevents Elon Musk’s illegal attempt to dismantle critical government services. Federal employees across agencies—from the Department of Treasury to the Department of Education—are at the forefront of Elon Musk’s power grab, and we must protect them.

This legislation is just the start. We will use every legislative, judicial, and public pressure tactic to defend our democracy.

That also means standing together in the face of misinformation, hateful rhetoric, and attempts to villainize our most vulnerable. My team has assembled a new page of resources on my webpage dedicated to supporting Oregonians impacted by the policies of the new administration.

There is no doubt that the next four years will be challenging, but the way we get through it is together. We must stay loud. We must stand tight. We must press on.

Be well,
