GRESHAM, OR – Congresswoman Maxine Dexter, M.D. (OR-03), joined Gresham Mayor Travis Stovall on Thursday for a walking tour of Historic Downtown Gresham, meeting with small business owners and community leaders to discuss the local economy, arts and culture, and downtown revitalization.
“Gresham’s small businesses and community organizations create jobs, bring neighbors together and make downtown a place people want to visit,” Congresswoman Dexter said. “During my visit, I heard directly from owners about rising costs and the support they need to succeed. Those conversations help guide my work in Congress. I commend Mayor Stovall and the local leaders who are making downtown a place where businesses succeed and neighbors connect.
“Congresswoman Dexter continues to demonstrate what it means to show up for Gresham and the people we serve,” Gresham Mayor Stovall said. “Her visit this week, including a thoughtful conversation about the future of our downtown, reflects her commitment to supporting small businesses, investing in arts and culture, and building the vibrant, welcoming community our residents deserve. We are grateful for her partnership and her continued belief in Gresham’s future.”
The visit included stops at the Center for the Arts Foundation and Gresham Historical Society to discuss the role of arts, culture and historic preservation in a successful downtown.
“Excited to share historic downtown Gresham with the Congresswoman and happy to share what the Center for the Arts Foundation has to offer the East County community by celebrating arts and culture,” said Shannon Chisom, President, Historic Downtown Gresham Association.
Congresswoman Dexter and Mayor Stovall stopped at Sugar Cubed Bakery for sweet treats and a conversation about running a local small business with bakery owner and Gresham City Councilor Kayla Brown.
The tour concluded at Maggie Mae’s Bookshop.
“It was wonderful to have the Congresswoman in Maggie Mae's to discuss books, audiobooks and all of the community events we offer,” said Sho Roberts, Owner, Maggie Mae's Bookshop.
The Congresswoman also visited iCandy, and Stomping Grounds Coffee House, connecting with staff and customers.
