Dexter Announces Winner of 2025 Congressional Art Competition
PORTLAND, OR — Today, Congresswoman Maxine Dexter, M.D. (OR-03) announced Evie Chan as the winner of the 2025 Congressional Art Competition for Oregon’s Third Congressional District.
“I am proud to elevate a piece of art that calls on us to combat the climate crisis with the urgency our children deserve,” said Congresswoman Dexter. “Congratulations to Evie on her inspiring quilt and its call to protect our oceans. Evie's talent and commitment to climate advocacy give me hope. This is the next generation of leaders.”
Evie wrote that her quilt, Against the Current, “invite[s] us to reflect on existential threats to our coasts including overfishing, habitat destruction, and climate change. By transforming these images into a quilt, I craft a narrative of interconnectedness – just as marine life is woven into the fabric of our state and our planet.”
The Congressional Art Competition is an opportunity to recognize the artistic talents of high school students from Oregon’s Third Congressional District. Winning artists from the competition will have their art displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year.
