Dexter: “This attack, made without domestic support, clear rationale, or a plan for the day after, fails the American people.”
“Only Congress, under Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution, has the authority—on behalf of the American people—to authorize acts of war. Last night, Trump once again trampled the Constitution by launching an illegal and reckless military strike in Venezuela and capturing their leader.
“Congress was not consulted, nor did we give approval.
“This attack, made without domestic support, clear rationale, or a plan for the day after, fails the American people and their need for safety and economic security. It further undermines our legitimacy on the world stage and threatens the defense of sovereignty globally, all while distracting us from what we should be focused on: investing in affordable healthcare, housing, and economic opportunity for American families.
“Congress must reassert its constitutional authorities, and vote on a War Powers Resolution to put a stop to this. As the Representative for Oregon’s 3rd Congressional District, I refuse to stand by and allow us to be pulled into another endless war.”
