Dexter Celebrates Lower Drug Prices for Oregonians

January 17, 2025

PORTLAND, OR — Today, Congresswoman Maxine Dexter, M.D. (OR-03) celebrated the announcement that 15 new prescription drugs will cost less for Oregonians thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act. This landmark legislation allowed Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices with big pharmaceutical companies for the first time ever.

“As a physician, I spent over two decades caring for the sickest members of our community. I know that too many Oregonians are forced to choose between filling their prescriptions and putting food on the table.

“For far too long, Big Pharma has taken advantage of Oregon families. By passing the Inflation Reduction Act, Democrats stood up to special interests to care for our most vulnerable. Today’s announcement is monumental news for patients with debilitating diseases like cancer, diabetes, and asthma.

“In Congress, I will continue to stand up to Big Pharma to ensure no Oregonian has to make the impossible choice between feeding their family or getting the health care they need.”

Congresswoman Maxine Dexter, M.D. has dedicated her entire life to caring for her community. As a pragmatic progressive, she is committed to bringing people together to build healthy, thriving communities. She began her career as a lung and critical care physician. Read more here.
