Dexter on House Passage of GOP Tax Scam: “It’s not policy, it’s a historic heist and betrayal of working families”

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congresswoman Maxine Dexter, M.D. (OR-03) released the following statement after voting against House passage of the GOP tax scam, which would rip away health care from as many as 14 million Americans and enact the largest-ever cut to federal food assistance, all to give tax breaks to billionaires.  

“For two nights in a row, while Americans slept, Republicans rushed through a tax scam: a massive giveaway for billionaires paid for by cutting health care and food assistance from working families,” Dexter said.

“It’s not policy, it’s a historic heist and a betrayal of working families. Every single House Republican who voted for this bill lacks the courage to stand up for their constituents.”  

An independent analysis found that the GOP tax scam would reduce household resources by 4% for the bottom 10% of Americans, while increasing them by 2% for the top 10%.
