Dexter: “I voted present. I will not lend my vote to a process that deepens division and puts more people at risk.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Maxine Dexter, M.D. (OR-03) released the following statement on her vote on H. Res 719:

“I condemn political violence in the strongest possible terms. But I could not support a resolution that, under the guise of denouncing political violence, also amplified rhetoric that I know to be harmful, divisive, and fuel the very extremism we see today. Rather than give this resolution more oxygen by voting no, I voted present. I will not lend my vote to a process that deepens division and puts more people at risk.”
