Dexter Leaves State of the Union with Fellow Progressives
March 4, 2025
WASHINGTON, D.C—Tonight, Congresswoman Maxine Dexter, M.D. (OR-03) walked out of the House chamber during Trump’s State of the Union to protest his assault on democracy and betrayal of key campaign promises to protect and support working families.
“I refuse to normalize Trump’s constitutional crisis.
“I will loudly fight back. I will relentlessly disrupt. I will unapologetically resist.
“Tonight, I left the State of the Union because I will not dignify his cruelty—and I want him to know that.”
Congresswoman Dexter brought local firefighter Alan Ferschweiler as a guest to Trump’s joint address.
