Dexter Statement on Passing of Congressman Sylvester Turner

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, Congresswoman Maxine Dexter, M.D. (OR-03) released the following statement on the passing of Congressman Sylvester Turner:

“I am heartbroken by the passing of my friend, colleague, and fellow freshman classmate, Congressman Sylvester Turner. He was a kind and funny colleague. He was also a tireless public servant as a mayor and Congressman for the people of Houston. He was a mentor to many and a champion for many more.

“He fought for his district until the very end. His final message before the joint address to Congress last night was ‘Don’t mess with Medicaid.’

“In his honor, and in emulation of his service, I will fight every single day to protect and expand Medicaid for all Americans.  

“I am holding his family, members of his staff, and his entire community in my thoughts today.”
