WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congresswoman Maxine Dexter, M.D. (OR-03) released the following statement on her decision to attend Donald J. Trump’s second presidential inauguration.  

“I was elected to represent and fight for our community in Congress. To me, that means showing up even on the most difficult days. We cannot fight what we do not understand.

“I will attend the inauguration to prepare for what is ahead and to ensure President Trump understands that I will stand boldly against any effort to harm the place I call home. 

 “Oregonians believe in the fundamental power of democracy. We believe that health care is a human right, the climate crisis is real, and our economy should work for everyone, not just the ultrawealthy. 

“Trump needs to know we will not stand by as he comes after our highest ideals. We will stand up.”
