In First Term, Dexter Elected to Natural Resources Committee Leadership

January 22, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C.— Today, Congresswoman Maxine Dexter, M.D. (OR-03), was elected as the top Democrat on the House Natural Resources Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations. As Ranking Member of the subcommittee, which is responsible for overseeing federal agencies and policies within the Natural Resources jurisdiction, Dexter will steer the subcommittee agenda to advance the issues that matter most to Oregonians.

"Oregonians believe that the climate crisis is real, our public lands deserve protection, and the federal government needs to uphold its Tribal obligations. Full stop. As the Democratic leader of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, I will push back against Republicans' extreme energy agenda and its detrimental impacts on our public health at every turn," said Congresswoman Dexter.

“Congresswoman Dexter’s expertise and experience will be vital to the work of this important subcommittee where Republicans will advance their extreme plans for rolling back environmental protections and helping corporate polluters. Her professional credence and iron-clad commitment to public health will be especially important as Democrats work to protect marginalized and disadvantaged communities from GOP’s reckless drilling, mining, and polluting agenda,” said Congressman Jared Huffman, Ranking Member of the House Natural Resources Committee.

The House Committee on Natural Resources oversees forests, public lands, national parks, oceans, energy and mineral resources, and the federal relationship with Native American Tribes throughout the United States. Natural resources are critical to Oregon’s Third Congressional District, which encompasses Mount Hood.
